  • Who am I supporting by participating in the Annual Cycling Circuit? 

    • Funds raised will go to support the Center for Healthy Neighborhoods initiative developed by Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation (Restoration), the nation's first community development corporation. Restoration partners with residents and business to improve the quality of life of Central Brooklyn by fostering economic self-sufficiency; creating healthy, stable families; promoting the arts and culture; and transforming the neighborhood into a safe, vibrant place to live, work and visit.

  • Is this a race?

    • Not at all! This is a leisurely ride and end times will not be recorded. You will have seven hours to complete the course. If you do not complete the course in that time, you will be picked up and transported to the Wellness Wrap Up by our support vehicles. 
       

  • Is there a registration fee?

    • Yes, the registration fee is $75. The fee will be donated in support of Restoration.

  • Are my donations tax-deductible?

    • Yes, all donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. All donations made payable to and received by LifeCycle Biking will receive an acknowledgement for tax purposes. 
       

  • Do you accept matching gifts?

    • Who turns down free money?!! Matching gifts are a super, painlessly easy way to increase your contribution to the cause. Simply ask your HR department to submit the paperwork to LifeCycle Biking. Be sure to note the matching gift is for Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation.
       

  • I want my child to participate, can they ride with me?

    • The Annual Cycling Circuit is open to all ages and abilities. Individuals under the age of 18 must have a signed guardian waiver prior to participating. We ask that anyone under the age of 16 be accompanied by an adult during the ride and Wellness Wrap Up at all times. All participants should have experience riding comfortably with traffic. 
       

  • Can I ride in a team?

    • Um, absolutely- the more the merrier! The Cycling Circuit is all about community – it’s a great opportunity for team building and a fun way to develop team spirit among colleagues. Three or more participants make up a team, and there's the added incentive of discount registration when signing up three or more people at once.  The discount is automatically applied at the checkout. 
       

  • What type of bike do I need?

    • You can ride the Circuit on any type of bike that you feel comfortable riding for at least 3 hours. All bikes are welcome- road, mountain, fixed gear, cyclocross, tandem, BMX, Brompton, etc. Participants should be aware of their cycling vehicles and abilities prior to participating. We ask that participants only use human powered bikes, no motor-powered bicycles please. 
       

  • Is there anywhere I can store my belongings?

    • Small articles (bags, shirts, warm up gear) may be left at the starting line. Volunteers will bag and label your belongings with your rider number for you to collect at the Wellness Wrap Up. Any belongings left are the responsibility of the assigned rider, LCB assumes no responsibility for lost or missing items.
       

  • How prepared do I need to be?

    • Participants must feel comfortable riding with traffic and be able to maintain a steady pace of 8-10 mph.
       

  • Are there different start times?

    • Yes - riders participating in the 62 mile route will start at 8:15am*, riders participating in the 31 mile route will start at 8:45am*, and riders participating in the 15 mile route will start at 9:20am*. Registration opens at 645a event day, please arrive by 715a to register and receive safety announcements. 

  • What are the routes for the Annual Cycling Circuit?

    • The routes are available here. They travel throughout Brooklyn and Queens, and then back to the starting line in Brooklyn. 
       

  • If I chose one route at registration, can I change the route choice at a later date?

    • Yes, you can change your route option but you must do so before September 16th, 2017.
       

  • What happens if I start the ride, but am unable to finish due to unforeseen circumstances?

    • Not a problem. Place a call to our headquarters and a member of our support crew will be dispatched to transport you and your bike to the Wellness Wrap Up. The number will be on a wristband provided to you at check in.
       

  • If I cancel my participation, what happens to my fee and donations?

    • Any funds provided/donated by you or others are not refundable and non-transferable. All donations will be added to the benefit amount for Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration even if you cancel before 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on September 20th, 2017.
       

  • Can anyone make a general donation to the Annual Cycling Circuit?

    • Yes. Using our donation button you are able to make a general donation to the Annual Cycling Circuit. All donations support Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration . Anyone can become an individual fundraiser for the Circuit, whether you ride or not!
       

  • Is bike repair offered along the route?

    • Bike mechanics will be riding the routes and stationed at the hydration stations. If you need mechanical repair during the ride, flag down a bike marshal or call headquarters and support crew will be dispatched to take you to the nearest mechanic. Mechanical repair is limited to minor issues. If your issue needs more attention, you will be referred to the nearest bicycle shop. 
       

  • What is a hydration station? 

    • Hydration stations are rest stops along the routes where you can rest, grab a snack, use the restroom, and most importantly- re-hydrate! They are located every 8-12 miles along the route and are only open to ride participants. 
       

  • Are helmets required?

    • Yes. We absolutely understand that people have different financial circumstances, differently shaped heads, and different physical and mental health conditions that may impact their ability to wear something on their head, etc. However, while we respect people's ability to make their own decisions based on their individual circumstance, we are required to have all riders wear helmets during the event. Thank you in advance for your co-operation.  
       

  • What if it rains?

    • The Annual Cycling Circuit is a rain or shine event. In the event of extreme weather (i.e. natural disaster) the event will be cancelled and rescheduled.
       

  • How will I know I am registered?

    • You will receive a registration confirmation immediately after signing up online. Shortly there after, LCB will send out your rider number and additional info. You can opt in to receive text message updates leading up to the event. Upon arrival to the event, you will meet volunteers at the registration table to check in and complete additional steps.
       

  • Do I have to pick up a packet ahead of time?

    • No, a registration packet will be emailed to you shortly after registration. Upon arrival to the event, you will be provided with a wrist band, rider number sticker for your helmet, turn-by-turn route cue sheet, and a waiver for you to sign. 
       

  • What else should I bring with me?

    • Besides a positive attitude and the desire to have fun?!! We recommend the following items:

      • Photo identification
      • Cell phone 
      • Water bottles (two if possible) 
      • Weather-appropriate clothing (Please check the forecast in advance)
      • MetroCard 
      • Patch kit and and an extra tube
      • Money for merchandise purchase at the Wellness Wrap Up
         
  • What is the Wellness Wrap Up?

    • The Wellness Wrap Up is our way of saying thank you. Your support and desire to Be Well is much appreciated. We are providing you with healthy snacks, music to rock to and a complimentary yoga class to stretch those pedaling muscles! 
       

  • Can my family and friends come to the Wellness Wrap Up?

    • Family and friends are welcome to come and cheer you on at the finish line, jam to the music and partake in Yoga. However, healthy treats are limited to riders first to ensure that all participants are fed and hydrated. Thanks in advance for your understanding.
